DJ play me a love song

Updated: Oct 29, 2018

We all connect to the idea of love in some way. For some it is movies, for others it other media outlets, but for me it is MUSIC. Music is what I use to express my feelings, most times the lyrics say all the things I want to say and explain exactly how I feel. In my debut novel Confetti, the love story between Rashida and Terrance gives me r&b feels. Their love is what I like to call...EASY! They have the kinda love that I was hearing about in the music that I love to listen to...love songs. You know the kinda of love that makes you wonder why in the hell would you ever settle for bullshit and drama when Marvin Gaye is on the speakers pouring his heart out and thats the kinda love you want for yourself. The kinda love that will have you all in your feelings all day, happy for no reason, and having an unexplainable 'glow' about yourself that you are not able to get rid of. While writing this Confetti I found myself only listening to love songs and that got me in my zone as I wrote. I was so engulfed in the story that I was in my feelings about each situation as though it was my own situation. I channeled my old school (to me) vibes from Silk, Joe, Tevin Campbell, Jodeci, H-Town, Toni Braxton, Destiny's Child, Monica, Brandy, Luther Vandross and also my new school vibes from H.E.R, Tank, Ella Mai, Chris Brown, Beyonce, & Sabrina Claudio. I got lost in the music every time I wrote, sometimes I forgot I was writing a fiction novel and began to foreshadow the love that I want for myself. What songs take you to a place that you forget your real life and start to feel the vibes of the songs? What love songs do you hear that no matter what happens you always will feel a way? What is your ultimate love song?
